How to Make a Soap Press Mold Stronger

Often times, soap makers find themselves with a mold that isn’t as sturdy as they would like. The good news is that most of these types of soap molds can be re-purposed with freezer paper to help make them stronger.

Some common soap press mold options include: HDPE, acrylic, and silicone. Each type has different benefits to offer.

Plastic

Many of the plastic soap molds on the market are made for melt and pour and often have cute shapes or designs. They also come in a wide range of sizes. These types of molds do not need to be lined, but some soap recipes will stick to the plastic if not coated or spritzed with a release agent before pouring. Freezer paper, wax paper, mineral oil and cosmetic silicone spray work well as mold releases and do not interfere with the saponification process.
