J-B Weld Clear Silicone Sealant & Adhesive is a general purpose RTV (Room Temperature vulcanized) silicone sealant for use in household or mechanical assembly applications. It bonds and caulks to glass, metal, porcelain, ceramics, fiberglass, most types of non-oily woods, abraded rubber, most painted surfaces and many plastics. It resists weathering, is sensor safe and stays flexible. It dries crystal clear.

It forms a strong, waterproof and weatherproof seal and is resistant to sunlight, rain, sleet, snow, ozone, temperature extremes and aging. It also remains flexible, won’t crack or shrink and resists vibration, expansion and contraction.
This product is a black, acetoxy curing, high quality silicone sealant that provides a permanent flexible, automotive clear silicone sealant durable and water tight seal for inside, outside and underneath the vehicle. It is unaffected by diluted acids, alkalis, alcohols and detergents and will not harden or crack due to exposure to water. It is also resistant to UV radiation, ageing and weathering and will not degrade due to normal road chemicals and salt.
Permatex Clear RTV Silicone Adhesive Sealant is a general purpose indoor/outdoor sealant that bonds, repairs, mends and secures glass, metal, plastics, fabric, vinyl and weather stripping and windshields (not recommended for engine gaskets). It “skins” and becomes tack free in 10-20 minutes, fully cures in 1 hour, and is odorless when dry.

Also, be aware that certain sealants need to “cure,” which simply means allowing them to sit for a period of time to allow the chemicals within the adhesive to bond with the surface of the vehicle or component they’re being applied to.
When working with silicone sealant, it’s important to apply the product in a thin bead. Putting down too much can cause the sealant to crack or break off, which could lead to critical components like the oil pan being exposed to the elements. Typically, you want to keep the bead in place until it sets and cures, which can take between 24 hours and several days depending on the product.
Storage Instructions
Clear silicone sealant typically doesn’t require anything more than a tube of the stuff and a caulking gun. But if you want to be extra careful, you might consider using it only on parts of your car that aren’t subject to drastic temperature fluctuations – this is especially important because extreme temperatures can cause the sealant to expand and compress, leading to breakage or cracking.
Another tip for getting the most out of your silicone sealant is to only use a thin bead, unless the application call for a thicker one. A thin bead won’t enter where fluids are moving around – like the engine oil, transmission fluid and differential oil – once it cures, preventing chunks of the sealant from breaking off and entering those components and clogging them up.
It’s also a good idea to only apply the sealant in a location where you can work on it for the time it takes to fully cure. And once it dries, don’t disturb it until you need to remove it again.
Lastly, make sure you replace the cap tightly and store it in a cool dry place if you aren’t immediately going to use it. A plug of cured sealant may form in the nozzle during storage, so unscrew and clean it before you reuse the product.
