Types of Air/Water Nozzles

AirWater Nozzle

There are several different types of Air/Water Nozzles, and understanding how they function will help you make an informed decision when buying one. These nozzles are available in a variety of materials. The material chosen will determine the pressure, temperature, and chemical reactions they can produce. Most common materials are plastics, stainless steel, and ceramics. Each nozzle’s shape is the result of an engineering process that answers a specific industrial need.

Pneumatic spray nozzles

Pneumatic spray nozzles are specialized nozzles used to mix two fluids, namely water and air. The nozzle is divided into two types: internal mixing nozzles and external mixing nozzles. A pneumatic nozzle applies the liquid under pressure, which produces a variety of spray patterns. They can be classified based on the type of fluid and outlet geometry. This article will explore the differences between the two types of nozzles.

Cone shaped air nozzles

Cone shaped air nozzles are shaped like a cone. Their size and shape determine the amount of spray and how they are distributed. Most cones have a 15deg angle, but they can vary from fifteen to one hundred degrees. Full cone nozzles produce a spray that is pyramidal in shape, while a hollow cone nozzle confines drops to the outer surface. Full cone nozzles distribute droplets evenly throughout the cone.

Round fan nozzles

A round fan nozzle is a popular option for cooling applications. Its unique design enables it to convert air pressure into volume and increases flow without requiring a compressor. The cone shape is also very compact and reduces noise pollution. These nozzles are a good alternative to open pipes in air-conditioning applications because they have a low pressure but high-flow capacity. Their internal design enables them to provide the best force per unit of air consumption.

Flat fan nozzles

These types of spray nozzles produce a line of spray that is generally preferred in cleaning and coating applications. They are often the best choice for applications that involve conveyor belts, the suppression of coal dust, and coating molds. These nozzles come in a variety of styles and flow rates, so it is important to choose one that suits your needs and budget. In addition, some flat fan nozzles have built-in jet stabilizers to maximize their spray distance and duration.

Nucleation nozzles

Nucleation nozzles for air/ water systems require a high air/water ratio to be effective. For example, the Backyard Snowstorm nucleating nozzle works best in a range of three to six SCFM air/water. The water flow rate should be within the range of 0.08 to 0.24 gpm. However, starving the nucleator of sufficient air flow will reduce its efficiency.
